“If you look at some stats for AI and ML, a Nasscom report showed that there’s a gap of about 50% in terms of demand and supply -- the requirement is for about 755,000 professionals and we have 500,000. In terms of digital skill sets, the gap is the highest in AI. To give you an anecdotal example, an AI engineer in India can potentially earn on an average Rs 24.6 lakh. So, there's a lot of money to be made and many people are putting a premium on those with the right skillset,” said Amit Mehta, head of AWS training and certification in AWS India.

The research also found that the productivity payoff from an AI-skilled workforce could be immense for India. Surveyed employers expect their organisation’s productivity to increase by 68% as AI technology automates repetitive tasks (71%), encourages learning of new skills (68%), and improves workflow and outcomes (64%). Employers believe AI could raise their efficiency by as much as 66%.
